Well it’s been a long time since I updated you all on my climb of Mount Assignment. You’ll all be pleased to know that I reached the top in more or less one piece.
However, upon reaching the top I discovered that on top of Mount Assignment is another mountain which is actually bigger and much more treacherous than Mount Assignment itself.
This means that there may be another long wait between updates as I do not expect to get to the top of this mountain as easily, or as unscathed.

I am well and truly on my way to climbing Mount Assignment. The deadlines are just around the corner and I feel as though I am getting nowhere fast.
It does not help that I am also now ill, which is basically the last thing I need to be at this point.
Tomorrow I have a tutorial about my biggest piece of work and I expect the feedback to be less than wonderful. However, it is a draft and there is time to make some major edits … not much time admittedly … but time nonetheless.
Stay tuned for a panicked update tomorrow.

I do not seem to be getting any closer to the top of Mount Assignment. In fact, despite my best efforts it seems to be getting bigger.
My solution? Put it all in a table and therefore create manageable bitesize chunks.
This is the result:

Already it is week 4 of the new university year. Assignment mountain is growing ever taller and I know that soon I will have to climb it.
So far the extent of my arduous climb has been skirting round the base of Mount Assignment looking for an easy route up. Alas, I have found none.
So, the new plan is to hit the books and hit them hard. As in, attack them with a wrecking ball hard. It would seem that twenty something books in about 3 weeks was not enough.
Tonight I shall finish the most pressing piece of work and then I shall draw up a plan for the rest of assignment mountain.
See you at the top

Well it’s that time of year. The time when all students pack up and head for home … or in my case halfway across the landing.
We are basically playing musical chairs with the rooms in the house.
I am moving into Jess’s room. Jess is moving into Stephen’s room. Stephen is moving to China. And Jess’s stuff is moving into my room.
Confused yet?
To make it all that much more fun we have a grand total of one day in which to do the reshuffle. Seeing as Jess goes back to Manchester for the summer on Saturday and I am at work both Friday and Saturday.
She only mentioned to me that she was moving back to Manchester today. So I have had no time to pack up my stuff (or even get boxes to put it all in).
It’s going to be a painfully slow move across the landing.

Today I am off work … because I am ill.
I was awake all of last night wit hpains in my stomach amongst other things. At 2am this morning I called NHS Direct. Now you can say what you like about the health service but the people I spoke to last night were amazingly helpful and did everything they could to help.
They told me that the best thing I could do was to go to a drop in centre this morning (seeing as it’s saturday and my GP’s office is closed). I went to the one in RSH and they were nothing if not thorough. They agreed with the NHS Direct people that I have a kidney infection.
So now I’m taking antibiotics and am expected to make a full recovery very soon. In the mean time I just have to put up with being in a fair amount of pain … only because I’m a bit of a ditz and forgot to pick up some pain killers while I was in the chemists.
The main downside to being ill today (apart from obviously being ill) was the hassle I had trying to call in sick to work. I called practically non-stop between 7:30am and 12 this afternoon. Even then I never managed to get through to the person I was trying to get through to. So ended up speaking to the kitchen manager rather than the restaurant manager I was trying to speak to. But I sent a text message to her and let her know that way. So I’m pretty much certain everyone who needed to know I wasn’t going to be going in knew in plenty of time.
Now I can concentrate on getting better.

Well that’s not strictly true.
I’m an accident that happens quite regularly.
Just in the last few days I’ve managed to take a chunk of skin of my hand (thank you very much IKEA), stepped on a plug, and just today I managed to scald my other hand while boiling some noodles.
And that’s before we talk about the bruises on my arms and legs which I have no idea how I got … oh, and the fact I managed to walk into 3 different walls in 2 days.
Quite an achievement don’t you think?
It wouldn’t bother me if it wasn’t for the fact that people have started looking at me as though I’m some sort of mental person and it’s gotten to the point where people don’t believe that things were accidents.
Which is not good.

I recently went to La Tasca because I had a 50% off all food voucher. La Tasca, for those of you who don’t know is a tapas restaurant. Tapas being lots of little dishes to share amongst the table.
We had 6 dishes for our table ranging from potato dishes to calamari to rib eye steak. Most of it was pretty good although the sauce the steak came in made me feel a little queasy and I wouldn’t recommend the chorizo. It was overcooked and I swear it would be all too possible to break a tooth on it.
Then came dessert. We ordered 1 white and dark chocolate cheesecake and one orange and chocolate cheesecake. We got 1 white and dark chocolate cheesecake and this message from the kitchen:
“the orange and chocolate hasn’t defrosted yet. We’ll give you a white and dark chocolate and bring out a piece of orange and chocolate for free when it defrosts”
Brilliant!!! Free cheesecake!!! … or so we thought
We did indeed get free orange and chocolate cheesecake which had defrosted. However, I’m 99% sure that cheesecake which has just defrosted should not be warm. This led me to think that the cheesecake had been microwaved. This theory was added to when I put a fork into the cheesecake only for it to ooze out in some strange warm creamy soup like consistency.
From this I have learnt that if I am ever in La Tasca and something isn’t defrosted take the alternative and don’t even consider my first choice again because anything could have happened to it.
On a brighter note the toilet roll in the ladies toilets was especially soft.
For anyone wanting to take advantage of the 50% off all food deal the voucher can be found here. The only condition is that you sign up to their website.

… I was sitting in a pub on London Road pushing some pasta round a plate watching the person sitting opposite me seeming to flirt with the waitress with the snake on her arm. It was one of the most awkward couple of hours of my life.
Then closing time came and we actually seemed to relax around each other a little. We went for a walk in the park, which might not have been the brightest idea at midnight in the freezing cold. Then it was time for him to take me home. We talked until about 4am and the rest, as they say, is history.
That whole little story basically comes down to that fact that as of today Dominic and I have been together for a year.
And seeing as we can’t see eachother today I will be travelling to Birmingham tomorrow evening after university. I’ll be there for the weekend and we plan on making the most of it.
As of yet I have no idea what we’ll be doing but I’m sure it’ll be nice whatever we end up doing.
Of course the entire weekend depends heavily on the weather. Seeing as, once again, the snow is back. Therefore, whether I can actually get to Birmingham comes down to whether or not the train companies have finally got their act together and have worked out a way to make trains work when the weather isn’t exactly perfect.

Currently I am the proud owner of pages and pages of rat drawings; and not even good rat drawings.
Why so many rats you say?
I am trying to come up with logo ideas for a uni project. And the group I’m working with/for have specified that they want a rat in the logo.
I have plenty of ideas for possible logos but that’s not why there are so many pictures. There are so many pictures because I have very little in the way of drawing ability. Which has resulted in many many sketches/doodles/scribbles which are all heavily annotated so that I know what they’re supposed to be when I look at them again.
So that leaves me in the all too familiar territory of having many ideas and no decent way of getting them down on paper.
